Boatyards are messy

Here's an update of the last weekend and Monday.  Hull has taken shape and is now ready for epoxy seal on the seams.  I'm pleased with the results. Initially the curvature of the plywood was badly skewing the "keel" but I found that flipping over the worst warped pieces worked to counteract the bends.  Now the keel line is perfectly true. Deck removed. Ready for epoxy on hull seams I'm pleased with how well the transom aligned with the hull bottom.  I expected larger gaps and was pleasantly surprised. Despite my best efforts the bottoms didn't want to go on in this direction.  The natural warp the the plywood was too much to overcome so I had to flip them "red" side out. boat bones Happy I got this done before the temps dropped too much.  The workshop is not a warm place in the winter. layout more layout

Since most of us are stuck in the pandemic doldrums I thought I'd start this little blog to document my current endeavor. While I was in Maine this summer I was unexpectedly introduced to RC sailing.  A neighbor loaned me his fathers RC Laser.  The Laser is such a simple design I it virtually sails itself and was perfect for a noobie like me.   I spent the final week in Maine checking winds and looking forward to the next outing.  RC Sailing is real fun!  All the joy of an RC plane but without the stress of crashing. If I fancied myself a real skipper though I supposed I'd need to get my own boat.  I started researching and found Gary Webb's site of  RC sailboat plans.  Elegant period correct "fantasy boats" as he calls them.  Designed to sail just like the real thing, only smaller.  I landed on the design "Irene"   and I was all in.  In the coming months I intend to document my build progress.   If you have any questions feel free to comment and I
