Garage Sale Day! Disco Restoration Night

Image
Hyde Park Garage Sale Day!     One excellent perk of living in Hyde Park is the incredible garage sale that we get every year.  Ironically very few of us have garages in Hyde Park so it ends up being more of a chat with your neighbors sidewalk type thing.  This old neighborhood full of old houses and old weirdos like myself that tend to accumulate lots of nifty stuff and it makes for a good time even if you don't buy anything. I like antique fans and I made a heck of a score on antique fans today.  Mainly in trade for fixing this even cooler little disco artifact for a neighbor.   It was his idea to give me 4 other fans just for fixing this little gem.  Check it out!       Here's the full video These are Curtis-Electro Lighting "Audio-Lites".  I get a real Studio54 type vibe from these so I'm guessing that's the era they were made.  I could find very little info on these anywhere so if you know anything about this please tell me in the comments.  Feels good

Budget Modern Birch Dining Table

Image
We've been using a secondhand dining table for the last decade.  Since Brasstacks finished our kitchen remodel we decided it was definitely time for a new table.  My goal was to build a table that can seat 4 very comfortably, 6 max and built with minimal waste lumber.    Time to get to work .  Cutting the 4x8 Birch plywood down to allow double stacking.  Weather was perfect for outdoor work which is nice since my shop is not big enough to work with a full sheet of plywood.       This dude showed up.  His collar says his name is "Snyder" and is an "outside cat." He wasn't interested in this project at all. Gluing everything together.       Decided to go with a 12 degree undercut         Ready for finishing 2 coats of lacquer 4 coats 5 coats and done.  I forgot to take any photos of the edge veneer and adding legs.  Using this stuff and these legs and a clothes iron.  There's also a 1x3 pine box underneath to provide rigidity. Done!
