Garage Sale Day! Disco Restoration Night
Hyde Park Garage Sale Day!
These are Curtis-Electro Lighting "Audio-Lites". I get a real Studio54 type vibe from these so I'm guessing that's the era they were made. I could find very little info on these anywhere so if you know anything about this please tell me in the comments. Feels good to save a little history from the disco era.
Turns out they didn't need too much work. They'd been stored in a humid area for too long so the wiring was badly corroded but still a simple repair. Not really worth documenting in pictures. The finished product is much more exciting to me. They're effectively a wood box with christmas lights behind refractive plastic. There's a little modulator box that seems to tweak the audio input in some way as to blink the lights in a pleasing way. I couldn't really figure out how it worked without taking it apart and I was worried that could destroy it.
I wish I could keep these cool little things but I can't cause I traded fixing them for these fans!
This is my new biggest fan now. 1/4hp from the Dayton electric company in Chicago. Not sure on age but I'm guessing 1950-60's. It works but need some new motor mounts which shouldn't be too difficult to find or make.
These are all projects for another time and another post. These pedestal fans are going to be interesting. They were basically free and need a fair bit of work. I'll save those for last the fan to the right is going to be my new workshop window fan. Just needs new switches and wiring.
