DIY Dragon Zoo (stuffed animal storage)

So I designed and built this stuffy zoo last night.  Build time about 2 hours and cost around $35.  You could probably do it faster if you had help for the cord stringing.  I was inspired by the toy store displays for stuffed animals and rubber balls.

materials:
50' 1/4" shock cord
8' x 1"x4" "whitewood" pine *
pack of 1 -1/4" - 1/4"crown staples
propane torch or lighter
hand saw or circular saw
tape measure
speed square
pencil

        * This is the mill sanded stuff that Lowes calls "whitewood."  It's good for simple furniture                         projects since the mill finish is sanded and splinter free.

Finished product guarded by Blackhorn the Dragon.

Tacking together the sides and bottoms.  The build is self explanatory from photos there is no complex joinery just 1/4 crown pneumatic staples.  Cutting the horizontal boards to 15" and 21" and vertical to 60" economized the 96" (8') boards in a way that there was almost no waste.  These dimensions left me with only a few < 6" scraps on of which could be used as a jig for the cord holes.

It's worth mentioning if you intend on doing this using this method lay out all your cuts before making them, this will ensure you actually have enough lumber.  Or just buy a spare 96" board.

The frame is now ready for cord holes

The holes are drilled 3 1/2" on center this made for a consistent gap all around.  I made a jig (not pictured) that made it quick to mark out the hole locations prior to drilling.

Tops of cord are stapled and bottoms knotted.  I found the most efficient method was to feed the cord in through the top hole then work "downward" tie the end and then pull everything taught.  Stapling the top with two staples cutting then melting the cord end.  The cord needs to be taught so as to keep stuffies in when fully occupied.
